Sodashi Mataji

At seventeen, Marie Louise Frankye encountered Sri Chinmoy's teachings at a meditation center in Zürich, Switzerland. For about a year, she practiced daily meditation, which opened the door to a deeper spiritual search.

After completing medical school and training in pathology, she moved to the U.S. in 1996 for a research internship at Yale University. There, she realized that a conventional medical career was not her path and turned towards inner exploration, studying and practicing various spiritual disciplines, including Kriya Yoga and Kinesiology.

 

During this period, she developed a deep appreciation for all religions, recognizing their common thread and how each points towards the same universal truth. She was part of in a Kirtan group where she sang hymns, chants, and mantras in praise of Indian Gods. She also became increasingly familiar with Hinduism and worked with the Divine Mother in the form of Mother Kali for transformation.

In December 2013, during an intensive period of spiritual seclusion, Sodashi Mataji recalls an inner voice asking, “Would you like to know who your master teacher is?” The answer she received was Babaji Maharaj. Since then, Sodashi Mataji and others who approach her for spiritual growth are being guided by revered and most compassionate Mahavatar Babaji.

Mataji is an Avadhoota—a spiritually realized being who has transcended worldly attachments and conventional identities, living in inner freedom beyond the limitations of the material mind. After entering states of Nirvikalpa Samadhi, she experienced what she identifies as Full God-realization—a permanent state of happiness in which one experiences oneness with all of creation. In 2022, the title ‘Paramahamsa’ was bestowed to her—in a recognition of zenith of her spiritual progress. She regards this as the beginning of her true spiritual journey and a stepping stone towards the highest expressions of human divinity on Earth.
